St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is leading the way in the fight against childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases such as sickle cell. And although I listed St. Louis, MO as the metro served, St. Jude Children's Research Hosptial literally serves children and families from all over the world, both in the care it provides and the research discoveries it shares freely. Since its doors opened, St. Jude has been instrumental in changing the childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80%! And it does all this while freeing families from the biggest burden in getting life-saving care for their kids: the cost. Families NEVER receive a bill - not for medicine, hospitalization, even travel, housing or food. The majority of funding for St. Jude comes from donors and volunteers' fundraising efforts. Even if the care is covered by insurance, families are never asked to pay a co-pay or deductible, and more than half their patients are under or uninsured. That will never get in the way of a child receiving care. St. Jude is on a mission to one day end childhhood cancer forever. It's motto: Finding cures. Saving children.
