St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness (SLOCA) provides much-needed assistance to ovarian cancer survivors in the St. Louis community. This includes the Woman to Woman Peer Mentorship program staffed by trained survivor-volunteers helping those newly diagnosed with ovarian cancer to navigate their journey, Survivor's Teaching Students ® presentations bring trained ovarian cancer survivor speakers into medical education classrooms to share their stories and raise awareness of the signs and symptoms, an updated website to provide more resources and functionality and the delivery of over 250 chemo care packages to newly diagnosed ovarian cancer patients. In addition, we are thrilled to have launched the Together in Teal Patient Need Fund, which provides financial assistance to women and their families who have been impacted by ovarian cancer.
Since 2005, SLOCA has provided funding for several research grants totaling over $600,000 through the Foundation for Women’s Cancer and locally the Alvin J Siteman Cancer Center. These grants are designated to gynecologic cancer initiatives with the hope that one day, because of the ongoing research there will be a world without ovarian cancer.
