Established in 1986, St. Peter’s Haven is a non-sectarian, 501(c)(3) organization operating a food pantry, transitional family shelter and homeless street outreach.  St. Peter’s Haven is an outreach ministry of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.  The Vestry of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church serves as the corporation board of St. Peter’s Haven.

At St. Peter's Haven, our mission is to provide food and shelter to families and individuals in need; to prevent homelessness and its recurrence and to offer stability to the family during this time of crisis.

At our shelter, we provide short term housing for homeless and at risk families.  Most stays are around 90 days.  Our transitional shelter consists of two homes – a one family, four-bedroom home and a two family house with both a three-bedroom and a two-bedroom unit.  At capacity, our three apartment units can shelter up to 18 people at any one time.  Our goal is to support and maintain the family as a unit, provide case management and to assist our families to obtain safe, affordable housing.  Our utmost priority is to keep each family intact so that they can maintain the normal rhythm of family life.  We accept families of any configuration, including inter-generational and extended families.

Healthy Community Food Pantry.  Serving 1800 household members each month, we provide a four-day supply of nutritous groceries to households in our community impacted by hunger.  With each visit, our goal is to provide healthy food including fresh produce,non-erishables, low salt/sugar foods, meats, breads and dairy as well as provide access to other services.  Access to healthy food and combatting hunger and poverty is just one of the obstacles facing our pantry members.  We offer a full range of services including assistance with accessing available resources for the family including employment opportunities, housing, social services, health and well-being.  We provide supplemental services for our families including backpacks and school supplies to assure back to school readiness for the children; warm coats, hats and gloves and holiday toys in winter and all the food needed to prepare a special Thanksgiving meal at home.

Our Street Homeless Outreach program is in conjunction with the City of Clifton Health Department.  We provide case management to approximately 20 homeless persons, working with the street homeless to provide food, clothing, regular shower days and medical check-ups and vaccines along with referrals to various medical, addiction and housing resources.

In a continuing effort to provide healthy food access to everyone, we have a community garden.   In partnership with City Green and the County of Passaic, our goal is to provide a space where a community can come together and share in the benefits of gardening – learning new skills, making new friends and producing healthy, fresh produce.    Pantry members, volunteers, staff and other members of the community are welcome to spend time in the garden communing with nature and with other garden enthusiasts as we grow fresh organic produce for everyone to enjoy.

We inform and engage our community of the continuing need to fight hunger the healthy way in our own backyard.  We provide tools to hold healthy food drives, encourage volunteering, financial giving and other means of support as we continue to work together to end hunger through healthy initiatives.
