St. Stephen Housing Association (SSHA) has been helping households experiencing homelessness and housing crises return to stable housing in King County since 1989. Our mission is to provide housing and support services to families with children experiencing a housing crisis or homelessness to enable them to move toward economic stability. Along with supportive services, our Family Housing program has provided between 30 to 40 families (150 individuals) each year an affordable place to live while working toward stability. Helping families experiencing homelessness return to permanent and stable housing is the heart of our mission. Without the security of a stable home, families live in crisis and an uncertainty that impacts every aspect of their lives. Our organization offers affordable housing and case management support services, which provide a crucial connection between the families and other providers. We use a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to working with families, focusing on the potential and capabilities that families have, rather than solely focusing on what is missing. These strengths have helped our families survive trauma and loss and we aim to reinforce the skills and attributes of this resilience, while still recognizing the effects that trauma and homelessness has had on their lives. But our program also goes beyond providing just the basic need of shelter; it provides hope for an escape from the cycle of homelessness and a better life for children and their families.

In addition, Housing Stability program works with households who are at risk of homelessness due to eviction or who are leaving homelessness to move into housing. This prevention and assistance program serves households whose incomes are under 50% AMI and are experiencing a housing crisis due to a financial hardship.

The goal of the program will be to provide enough financial assistance and resources to allow households to remain housed and avoid homelessness or leave homelessness and regain housing.
