St. Vrain Community Montessori School (SVCMS) is a charter school in the St. Vrain Valley School District. We serve students ranging in age from 3 years old to eighth grade. As a charter school, we depend on contributions from our school families as well as members of the greater community, in addition to the per pupil funding we receive from the state of Colorado as a public school.

SVCMS faces a particular challenge in educating approximately 270 students in facilities intended for 200. In the last five years, waitlists for positions at the school have averaged 220 children. The facilities lack basic amenities found at most public schools, including adequate gymnasium space, a cafeteria, a library, and suitable outdoor play areas and outdoor classrooms. Despite this challenge, educational programing at SVCMS has adhered faithfully to the Montessori philosophy, while also providing innovative learning opportunities for its students, such as an upper elementary Global Explorium store, a student-led farm stand business, and an environmental education program.

The SVCMS Board of Directors and Head of School continue to work towards securing facility financing, with their sights set firmly on the end-goal of building a permanent facility. In the short term, SVCMS is hoping to make property improvements that will allow the school to move some educational programs to land we’ve acquired while also beginning student farming operations there. While it is our hope that we can construct a permanent facility sooner rather than later, we will not lose sight of protecting the great work being done at the school now. We hope that others in the local community and beyond will join us in making this vision a reality.
