I am a mother of a disabled daughter and a volunteer for STRIDE Adaptive Sports.
How would you feel if you lived in a world where you were constantly told "No You Can't"? When it comes to outdoor recreation, that is how children with disabilities and wounded warriors feel everyday. That is until STRIDE Adaptive Sports stepped in and supplied the volunteers and adaptive equipment so people like my daughter could ski, camp, play baseball, hike and bowl... and prove "YES they Can"!!! Without STRIDE families like ours struggle to give our children with disabilities the normal recreational experiences. When my daughter played baseball, STRIDE organized the local baseball team (Twin Town Little League) to have a player assigned to each disabled player. If the athlete was in a wheelchair the little league player would hand the ball to the STRIDE Athlete to throw it or push the athlete around the bases. This not only gave the disabled player the support they needed but it taught the little league players empathy and compassion.
Also, please note that STRIDE also provides ski programs for those wounded in military service (Wounded Warriors). They protected us and now it is our turn to support them!!
I appreciate your consideration for this request. Together we can make a difference!!!
