As an organization, Students Supporting Brain Tumor Research’s (SSBTR) mission is to provide education and leadership development to our youth, furnish a platform for them to play a principal role in effecting positive changes in their communities, promote awareness of how common brain tumors are as the leading cause of cancer deaths among their peers and act as outreach to support affected individuals and their families.

The centerpiece of this student run non-profit is its annual cure-a-thon in Scottsdale, AZ, which serves as a vehicle towards raising support for brain tumor research through soliciting donations and enhancing community and corporate involvement.

We are writing to request a donation for the University of Arizona College of Medicine- Phoenix’s 14th Annual Charity Ball benefiting Students Supporting Brain Tumor Research to be held on Saturday, April 16th, 2022. SSBTR was founded in 2002, when research pointed out that this disease had become the number one cancer killer of teenagers and young adults, having even surpassed leukemia.  SSBTR is an organization predominantly run by students and dedicated to fighting brain tumors by raising and providing vitally needed funds to cutting edge research institutions, while spreading awareness as to how common this disease now is.  The total amount of funds raised since they began is now well over $3.5 Million!  As always, these funds have been distributed directly toward brain tumor research at such leading centers as Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Barrow Neurological Institute, T-Gen, the University of Arizona and the National Brain Tumor Society.  If you would like more information, please visit the web site at www.ssbtr.org; there you will also find the IRS 501(c)(3) form.

We are expecting approximately 150 guests to attend this special event, including hospital administrators, representatives of our beneficiary institutions, local physicians, medical students, faculty, and staff.  The program will consist of dinner, a keynote speech, and a silent auction.  Therefore, our request is for silent auction items, such as gift certificates; however, monetary donations would be greatly appreciated as well.  In addition, donations valued at $250 or more will be specifically acknowledged on the SSBTR website.  All donations are tax-deductible. Our tax ID number is 20-0345903. Your generosity would be very much appreciated, as it would help us make this event the greatest success ever.  Thank you for your consideration and have a great day.

Sincerely,

Austin Sherwood
