To whom it may concern,
I am Grace Edwards, 14-year-old founder of Talent for Epilepsy. I founded Talent for Epilepsy in 2009
when I was 7 years old, because I wanted to increase awareness of Epilepsy for my cousin. My cousin
Logan is a person with Epilepsy. He is one of 3 million Americans affected by this irreversible neurological
disorder. It is estimated that 1 in 26 people have epilepsy and that it is responsible for over 50,000 U.S.
deaths each year.
Logan was diagnosed with Epilepsy at the age of one. My family and I have watched him deal with the
stigma associated with this disorder throughout his life. Many children and adults do not understand
Epilepsy or how to deal with it. Logan gets blank stare seizures and grand mal seizures. Thanks to
medicine that Logan takes daily and a pacemaker that was surgically implanted in his chest Logan’s
seizures are not as severe as they could be. Logan still has approximately 20 seizures a day and it has
become part of his daily life.
Surgery, tests and medicine are expensive and even the best insurance does not cover much when it
comes to Epilepsy. Some families are homeless and can’t afford to pay for their child’s epilepsy medicine.
Epilepsy is a life-threatening disorder of the brain and can lead to death, can you imagine being faced
with the decision to eat or provide your child with lifesaving medicine?
When I was 7 years old I decided that more people needed to know about epilepsy. It shocked me that so
many people were affected by it, but it was not talked about and many still didn’t know about it. Talent for
Epilepsy was created and with help from family, friends and the community Our First and Second Talent
& Fashion shows were a huge success.
We’ve been able to support many epilepsy organizations and children’s hospitals with our fundraising
efforts, but our ultimate goal is to one day create a medical grant program to help families pay for
expenses related to epilepsy. With your help, we can get closer to achieving our goals.
Talent for Epilepsy is a registered 501c3 non-profit. We create family friendly events which advocate
Epilepsy awareness in a fun and interactive way. Proceeds are donated to those who struggle with the
expenses related to epilepsy.
You can help with your donation of items for our silent auction and swag bags (300 swag bags). We also
need donations for supplies, venue and other costs associated with the event. Receipts will be provided
upon request. We are also looking for fashion show sponsors.
We would like to invite you to visit talentforepilepsy.org and help raise awareness!
