Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event that is held in over 5,500 communities in the U.S. and around the world. It is community event that celebrates cancer survivorship and pays tribute to those who have lost their battle. Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated. One in three Americans will get cancer in their lifetime. Today, slightly more than half of cancer patients survive. The Relay For Life gives this community an opportunity to fight back – to make a difference in the battle against cancer. The pandemic has made it difficult to “Relay” as we traditionally have, but our Texas Trust Credit Union team is determined to attack cancer any way we can!
Money raised by Relay for Life goes to fund research, education, advocacy and various programs in our great state and across the country such as: “Reach to Recovery” which pairs a breast cancer survivor with a newly diagnosed patient to be a personal support system for that patient; “Road to Recovery” that helps provide rides for patients to get to and from their treatments; “Hope Lodge” which provides free lodging for cancer patients and their caregiver in major cities across the country (instead of spending those funds on hotel bills, that money can be put toward paying for treatments); and 1-800-227-2345, a 24/7 cancer information line that assists patients and their families either over the phone or virtual conference.
