The Arc of Madison County was founded in the late 1950s by a group of parents seeking services and support for children with disabilities. One of their first achievements was raising enough funds to place the first special education teacher in the Huntsville City School system.

Once free and appropriate education became a mandate for children with disabilities, the Arc’s focus was able to broaden; becoming an advocate for all those with disabilities – from infants to adults.

The Arc specializes in assisting those with intellectual disabilities; they are given loving care and guidance as they find their place in the community and the world at large. 

Over the years, the Arc has been recognized for the many services and programs that are available. Some of these services include: Job Coaching, Adult Day SZervices, Residential Services, Early Intervention Program, Outpatient Center, and now our Autism Clinic.
