The Bridge Academy, located in Lawrenceville, NJ, is a state-approved, nonprofit school for children with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia.
We were formed in 2003 by a group of concerned parents, educators, and community members who saw the need for a program to help students of average and above-average intelligence who were failing to perform to their academic ability in school because of their learning disabilities. The Bridge Academy provides a place for these students to find success academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our students come from a variety of racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and live in a variety of settings including the socio-economically disadvantaged city of Trenton, NJ and suburban communities throughout New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. Many come to us barely able to read. Almost all come to us suffering from a lack of confidence and feelings of frustration, anger, and/or inadequacy from their prior school struggles. However, the skills and strategies they acquire at The Bridge Academy allow many of our students to transition back to their home school district to complete their education after a few years. Those who remain at The Bridge Academy throughout high school go on to pursue post-secondary education or fulfilling careers in fields about which they are passionate.

Our educational program provides individually tailored instruction, customized to the unique needs of each student’s learning style. Additionally, we provide our students with tools and strategies for learning success which they can apply outside the classroom in their daily lives and in their future jobs and careers. Our highly trained and personally committed staff has developed unique, state-of-the-art techniques that are research-based and classroom-proven. We have been asked to share our innovative teaching methods in presentations before annual conferences of the International Dyslexia Association, the Association of Schools & Agencies for the Handicapped, and the Orton Gillingham Academy.

Bridge Academy by the numbers:

  • We are the only school in New Jersey and one of only 19 schools in the country to be Orton Gillingham accredited.
  • Our 12th graders have a 100% graduation rate.
  • 87% of students graduating from The Bridge Academy have pursued post-
    secondary education.
