About us:
Since 1972, the Burn Institute has served and supported burn survivors and their families (San Diego and Imperial Valley) to recover and prosper. We helped establish the UC San Diego Regional Burn Center. We proudly provide extensive fire and burn prevention education and resources to thousands annually. Our work reduces injuries, saves lives, and protects our communities. We rely on the support of our community (philanthropic, private sector, individual giving). Our team of 12 is small buy mighty! Our volunteer board (15 members) is comprised of community leaders.We are a nonprofit public benefit 501c3. EIN: 23-7260718
Some our services include…
* Many wonderful burn survivor support programs including “Camp Beyond the Scars” for young burn survivors, support groups and retreats for burn victims, many community activities to build connections and ongoing healing.
* Proactively educating youth (50K+ annually) with in-school presentations and curriculum on fire and burn prevention.
* FireSafeKids.org - full featured site to engage youth, families, and educators.
* Youth fire starter intervention
* Free smoke alarm installation for seniors.
* Working closely with all fire departments and fire Chiefs throughout San Diego and Imperial Valley.
* Close partnership with the UCSD Burn Center.
* Wildfire prevention & preparation information.
* Workplace fire safety training.
