The Down Syndrome Association of South Texas was founded in 1994 by a small group of parents who met in a family's living room. These families that chose to gather all had one similar commonality - a child living with Down syndrome. They shared struggles and information for doctors, services, and supports which were very minimal at this time. They created a voice for the Down syndrome community that resulted in the current DSASTX that became an official non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status in 2003. We currently support over 1,275 individuals with Down syndrome with a mission to support and gain access to resources, engage in their community, bring awareness and progress towards self-actualization through a totally inclusive community.
