The Food Bank of York Region (FBYR) is a registered Canadian charity committed to providing hunger-relief to people experiencing food insecurity. Our services are centred on the collection and distribution of food to a network of 75+ agencies, including local food banks and pantries, shelters, and non-profit housing cooperatives, as well as our mobile food bank services.
Our mission is to alleviate food insecurity and hunger in York Region by providing a nexus between the abundance of healthy surplus food and the non-profit organizations that provide food services to at-risk residents.
FBYR works to ensure access to healthy food options through our mobile food bank program and our community partner network. We have expansive refrigeration capacity to collect and deliver large donations of fresh and frozen foods.
The Food Bank of York Region is the regional food hub and mobile food pantry with a network of 75+ social service agencies and emergency home delivery programs. The network supports food programs in the nine municipalities of York Region, serving 24,000+ individuals in 7,000 households. The COVID-19 pandemic increased the number of people accessing food bank programs in York Region by 42% from 2018, expanding the threshold of food insecurity to a larger scale of members of our community.
