The Guidance Center provides comprehensive mental health treatment to our community’s most disadvantaged children and their families struggling with mental illness and abuse, leading them toward a positive and productive future. The Guidance Center envisions a community where all children have the help they need to be healthy and happy.

We provide comprehensive mental health services at the school, in the home, and at our clinics to children, teens, and families who are struggling with a variety of challenges, including trauma, depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, and ADHD. The Guidance Center offer a broad array of services, from prevention, to early intervention, to treating more serious chronic illnesses, to ensure disadvantaged children, teens and families in our communities have the help they need to be happy and healthy.

These services are individualized to each client and family, provided within a strength-based framework, and coordinated with other social service agencies. Therapists meet with the child and family wherever they are at to increase the child’s ability to function at school, in the home, and in their community. Driven to remove barriers to accessing treatment, our therapists meet those children wherever they are – whether that’s in school, a hospital, their home, or foster care.

Headquartered in Long Beach, we also have two smaller clinics in the nearby communities of Compton, Lynwood, Paramount, San Pedro and Avalon on Catalina Island.

We are a major community mental health service provider – employing nearly 200 mental health professionals, support staff, administrators, and interns – that serves more than 3,000 children and families annually. Under the leadership of Patricia Costales, LCSW, The Guidance Center continues to seek new opportunities to partner with civic leaders and local organizations, educate the community about the complexities of mental illness and implement healing solutions.
