The Homeless Center for Strafford County is located in Rochester NH. We provide community members and families with shelter, case management and educational programs that lead to self-suffciency and permanent housing. The shelter was formed in 1998 by a group of committed citizens who recognized the desperate need for shelter during the coldest months in NH.

For the first 3 years, the shelter was located in the Salvation Army gym in Rochester, NH as an overnight shelter. In the summer of 2001, Waste Management of NH donated the use of a "free leased" 6 bedroom residential home. This home housed residents for 18 years. in the Spring o f2019, HCSC acquired 17 acres of land on Washington St in Rochester, NH, made possible with a generous donation from the Laurion Family. A buiding task force was formed and in NOvember 2021 the Home for Now building opened it's doors to residents.

Home for Now is the first shelter is the first shelter in NH built from the ground up, allowing the design to acccommodate the many needs of our residents. In October of 2023, the Board of Directors decided the need is much great for a year-round shelter in our community. They decided to open the doors all year to house single adults, families with children, elderly and veterans.
