The Learning House Foundation, Inc. is an Illinois 501 (c)(3) non-profit, volunteer based organization that provides support and assistance to children and teenagers.  Based in Wheeling, Illinois, its programs help young people throughout the suburban Chicago area who have been determined to be “at risk” by their home school districts or supplemental support providers. The Foundation incorporates a unique synthesis of real life, hands-on experiences (i.e., wilderness therapy, experiential overnight trips), education-based services, individual and group counseling, and environmental awareness. The programs are designed to provide pragmatic challenges to facilitate the children’s social, emotional, and academic growth. These include horseback riding, rock climbing, animal assisted therapy, mastery meditation practice, scuba diving, 27-mile overnight bike rides, water sports, ziplining, team building courses, wilderness-based overnight camps, archery, wildlife education and preservation courses, and much more. All of these experiences and supports (and the necessary equipment/supplies/meals for such programming) are provided to the child at no cost to them or their families.

Since 1992, The Learning House Foundation has served hundreds of students who have little or no hope of being successful in their public schools or completing their education. With the financial assistance provided through private donations, we have helped countless children and teenagers to successfully graduate from high school and continue their education and/or maintain competitive employment.
