The Nature Foundation at Wintergreen encourages understandings, appreciation and conservation of the natural and cultural resources of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
Our environmental education outreach includes:
-Informing and inspiring environmental stewards by reaching 10,000 children, youth and adults in the field and classroom annually.
-Co-sponsoring an environmental education summer camp with Nelson County Public Schools.
-Conducting research and monitoring the ecosystems in and around Wintergreen.
-Collaborating with scientists/researchers from Smithsonian and institutions of higher education.
-Providing funding and site access for archaeology research that documents the lives and cultures of the first Native Americans in the Eastern United States.
-Managing and underwriting a volunteer plant propagation program that grows and sells natives of the Blue Ridge.
-Maintaining a hiking system of 35 miles of trails as part of its overall education outreach.
