The Poor Household of God is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds for the Oikos Sisters. These Sisters are a small, poor religious community of nuns in a very impoverished region of the Philippines who have dedicated their lives to serving others.
At present, the Oikos Mission has three rescue homes committed to providing a safe haven for children and young adults who have been orphaned, abused, abandoned, or rescued from extreme poverty. Not only do the Sisters provide a roof over the youths’ heads, but they also promote their health, nutrition, and education and give them a home full of happiness, security, and joy.
In addition to caring for these young people, the Oikos Sisters have a variety of programs aimed at alleviating the suffering of the poor in their region. Some highlights include:
- Food Assistance, both by offering a soup kitchen to meet immediate needs and by providing villagers with the supplies and education to be able to grow their own food on an ongoing basis
- A Microlending Program
- Education Sponsorship, covering tuition, fees, and supplies for 200 elementary, 81 high school, and 47 college students
- A Charity Village
- A Charity Pharmacy
- A Charity Dental Clinic
- Emergency Relief after Typhoons
