The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Since 1884, The Salvation Army in the Empire State Division has provided a variety of programs and services that annually benefit over 200,000 disadvantaged people, being committed to meeting the needs of the impoverished and others who lack a strong voice: the very young, aged, frail, sick, and disabled.

Following its mission to offer hope for a better life by meeting basic human needs, The Salvation Army is an integral part of the local human service network, providing emergency and supportive assistance through a network of programs including: Emergency Family Assistance, Emergency (Homeless) Family Shelter, Homeless Street Feeding, Supervised Visitation, Employment Services, Pathway of Hope, Conflict Resolution Workshops, Emergency Disaster Services, Corps Community Centers, and youth programming.
