A little bit about the Theresa's Battleship Foundation; we became certified as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 2014, but the roots of our foundation began in 2010, when Theresa Joan Fitzpatrick, at the age of 16, was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. This type of Sarcoma would infect her lymph nodes, lungs, heart, eyes, and brain. In 2011 I, along with a team of high school juniors, created the Relay for Life Team, Theresa's Battleship to honor Theresa and her fight to beat cancer. The team received a Silver Medal award for our fundraising achievement during our first year participating at Cheshire High School in Cheshire, CT.

On June 30, 2013, Theresa lost her battle with Cancer, but her three year fight was nothing less than an inspiration. Despite the chemotherapy, surgeries, and all the side effects that came with the disease, Theresa never lost the qualities that made her so special. She captioned the Cheshire High School tennis and soccer teams, enjoyed time with friends, danced her way to prom, and completed her first year of college as a biology major at Quinnipiac. All who knew her were drawn to her amazing never-ending smile.

Since it’s creation, The Theresa's Battleship Foundation has raised over 1.2 Million dollars through generous donations and various fundraisers including our International Virtual Event, Miles For Smiles, local 3v3 basketball, tennis and golf tournaments, and our Battleship Gala. The Foundation provides funding for the laboratory research and clinical trials program within the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Connecticut Children's Medical Center  All monies raised have gone 100% to this cause.
