The mission of The Wright Center for Patient & Community Engagement is to empower patients to make meaningful contributions to the delivery, enhancement, and transformation of health care services and interprofessional workforce development and to improve the health of our communities through education, advocacy, and patient-centered services and efforts directed toward the Social and Economic Determinants of Health.

The Wright Center for Patient & Community Engagement inspires and nurtures interactions with patients, the community and like-minded organizations to energize our mission with an increased focus on patient and community engagement and support. We focus on improving access to health care while addressing the negative social and economic determinants of health that affect our patients, including food insecurity, homelessness, poverty, and access to education.

Our Patient & Community Engagement initiatives, for example, supply bus passes and other transportation assistance to patients who might otherwise be unable to get to their medical appointments. Our volunteers also assist communities with free food distributions, winter garment and blanket giveaways, homeless outreach, blood drives, health fairs, school backpack giveaways, and other special mission-driven projects. We also look to bolster community spirit by hosting trunk or treats, pumpkin painting, health education initiatives, kids art projects, and books for kids.

Overall, Patient & Community Engagement enhances The Wright Center for Community Health’s ability to deliver primary and preventive care services to the most vulnerable in our regional communities, regardless of their ZIP code, insurance status, or ability to pay. We serve the communities of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.
