ThinkSelf's mission is to provide a range of resources, education, and support to deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing Minnesota adults with the goal of ensuring they have access to options for learning, safety, justice, employment, and community. TSI offers a range of programs and services, including domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy, adult basic education, internships, and peer mentoring. Our impact has been recognized by organizations including the Minnesota Association of Deaf Citizens, Minnesota Alliance on Crime, and the University of Minnesota’s Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

TSI is dedicated to offering personalized and culturally-sensitive support to our community members via services that are unique to Minnesota and most of the country. We are one of only 13 other deaf-specific victim service organizations in the United States, as well as the only deaf-specific statewide ABE consortium in the country. We s a range of tools to enhance communication and overcome barriers, including having interpreters on-site during working hours which allows for a quick community crisis response and also helps visitors feel comfortable when communicating with anyone in the organization.

While participating in TSI programs, community members have achieved higher levels of education, employment, independence, and self-advocacy skills, empowering them to become more engaged members of their families and communities. TSI’s advocates strive to prioritize self-determination in all planning and implementation which can lead to positive outcomes in areas including safety planning, HRO/OFP filings, access to shelter services, and justice.
