Re: Donation of prizes or funds for charity golf tournament
As the Social Convenor for the teachers and coaches in the east quadrant of the Toronto District School Board, I have been organizing a charity golf tournament for many years now. This tournament has been held in the east region of Toronto in the past, but with the help of the Elementary Teacher of Toronto, I have been able to now make the tournament available to all teachers / coaches in the TDSB. It will be held on Sunday September 30th at Station Creek Golf and Country Club.
Other than making the tournament a social event, my main purpose for the tournament is for generating a charitable donation to an organization that is close to my heart - The Ride for Karen (www.rideforkaren.com). This charity bike ride has been organized for the past 16 years by 2 brothers Kirk and Kris Tobias, both of whom are good friends of mine. They have lost their mother (Karen) to breast cancer and their father (Kal) to colon cancer, and the ride is a legacy of their lives. Each year, about 300 cyclists gather to ride 200km, 160km or 100km to raise money. I myself will once again ride the 200km route, while my 15yr old son will ride the 160km route and my 13yr old son will ride the 100km route - it’s a family event!!
Over the past 15 years, The Ride for Karen has gathered over $2.5Million to help send kids with cancer to camps in the Muskoka Region. These camps (Oochigeas, Trillium and Quality) give kids with cancer the opportunities that every kid should have - fishing, canoeing, boating, swimming, campfires and more. A week at camp is like a breath of fresh air from the daily tests, treatments and hospital rooms that these kids wake up to each day.
To help raise money for The Ride for Karen, I have worked hard to collect prizes for a Raffle Draw that all golfers are encouraged to purchase tickets for. The more prizes on the table - the more tickets get sold!!
It is in this area that I am asking for your help. By making a donation of a pass, gift card or other merchandise associated with your establishment, I will be able to generate more interest in the raffle, sell more tickets, and make a larger donation to The Ride for Karen. I hope that you will donate generously as you recognize the positive impact that you could also make in the minds of the teachers who will be playing in my tournament.
