The Youth Engagement Committee is made up of nonprofit partners who work together to provide regional youth with the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to reach their full potential. Join us in our mission to create a brighter future for our youth. Together, we can empower the next generation and build a more equitable, supportive, and inclusive community for all.

Homeless Services Committee

The Homeless Services Committee is a collaborative effort aimed at addressing the complex issue of homelessness in our community. At TCN, we are not just talking about change, we are driving it.

The Committee brings together a diverse range of stakeholders, including local agencies, churches, and concerned individuals, to collaborate and address the pressing needs of the homeless population.

Regular meetings, separate from TCN general meetings, provide a dedicated space for discussions and solutions-focused work.

The Eldercare and Caregivers Support Committee is dedicated to addressing the growing local demand for elder care and support for family caregivers. With the number of family caregivers on the rise, it’s more important than ever to provide sustainable solutions for both those in need of care and those providing it.

The Committee is at the forefront of this important work, focusing on unique programs and projects that support the aging and adult population and help alleviate the physical and emotional demands on family caregivers. By working together, we can ensure that our aging population receives the care and support they deserve. Join TCN and be a part of this vital effort.

Domestic Abuse Prevention Committee

With alarmingly high statistics of domestic violence-related deaths in Pennsylvania, it is clear that proactive conversation and initiatives are desperately needed. Community Partners Against Domestic Abuse is taking a stand, developing projects and supportive programming to educate, empower, and support organizations and individuals in their efforts to end domestic abuse.

By coming together and lending our voice to this critical issue, we are working to create a future free from violence and abuse.

RELC

Racial Equity Learning Community project, TCN is dedicated to continuously improving our efforts to provide culturally sensitive and diverse services. The RELC seeks to establish a learning community for organizations to commit to personal and organizational learning; develop an organizational racial equity action plan; work towards an organizational race equity culture, and participate in inclusive community action. Additionally, TCN has worked to bring DEI training, as well as culturally responsive support and consulting to local nonprofit organizations in our Membership list. Since 2020, we have also restructured our services and programs to provide a greater depth of support to BIPOC led organizations. The program design, evaluation, and execution for the C2 program are all centered in equity and in 2022 we added a racial and social justice component to C2 that was highly successful in its first two years of operation.

C2

Community Camp C2 Program. Firstly, to increase access to youth development opportunities that will improve children’s overall health and wellbeing, the C2 Community Camp supplies a heavy focus on physical and mental health and wellness. We know that health behaviors, such as exercising, consuming the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables, and limiting consumption of sugary beverages can positively influence overall health, while behaviors such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can negatively impact a person’s health. Health behaviors are based on personal habits, but heavily influenced by the environment and economic status of the individual.

Because Pottstown borough is acknowledged as a “food desert”, C2 places a large emphasis on food/nutrition and physical activity to impact overall health as a strong starting place. C2 campers grow a community vegetable garden which they harvest weekly and are able to take home any of the produce they helped produce.  C2 also provides healthy cooking opportunities daily, utilizing produce grown in the community garden as well as in partnership with local farm/garden programs Green Allies and MOSAIC.  Additionally, the students are provided with a large variety of physical activity enrichments such as swimming, soccer, tennis, yoga, and basketball. The campers receive 60 minutes of physical activity daily, as well as stress relief resources including yoga, journaling, and mindfulness.

The children participating in the C2 camp have low social capital, so it is also critical to help address their mental and emotional environments in addition to the health and wellness supports. Almost 90% of C2 participants are not exposed to environmental education and do not have direct access to natural environments, which research shows can have negative long term consequences on social-emotional development. To address this, C2 provides a weekly offsite visit to Althouse Arboretum, a 7 acre open space property to promote environmental preservation and education.  C2 students take part in the on-site low ropes course, community farm, outdoor classrooms, the forest trail, fishing, environmental education (plant life, insects and animals, and hiking trails).

Since 2021, C2 has added the Launching Leaders program- a peer counselor training program that has wildly contributed to overall program success in helping improve youth development.
