Mission

Empower youth from underrepresented communities to develop confidence, teamwork, and accountability through the sport and community of ultimate frisbee.

 Populations and Communities We Support

We support youth in Bayview/Hunters Point, Portola, and Visitacion Valley in Southeast San Francisco as well as Oakland. Youth are ages 6 to 18 from underrepresented communities with the majority identifying as Black/African American, Latinx, Asian, and Pacific Islander. We coach almost 300 youth each week.

 Programs

We have built deep ties with youth, families, and communities in these neighborhoods. He bridges connections and fosters communication across historically hostile areas, hosting tournaments and community events, providing transportation to youth from working families, and getting to know people as human beings. Under his leadership, Ultimate Impact has intentionally developed programs to support youth and the community:

  • Girls & Company Program: Supports females with mentorship during critical transition periods, elevating their leadership opportunities and athletic skills.
  • Developing Leaders Program: Hire high school youth who have aged through our younger programs to mentor and coach younger youth.
  • Dragons Program: Brings together youth from different schools and neighborhoods to play together in tournaments, creating cross-community teams, open lines of communication, and teach conflict resolution skills.
  • Weekly Structured Learning through Sports: Place-based program brings coaches directly to youth at schools to provide youth development through the vehicle of ultimate frisbee.

 The Foundation of Ultimate Impact

Ultimate Impact is more than a sports program. We prioritize youth development and relationships with families. Coaches don’t teach to win. They teach to empower. We have intentionally designed to our programs to ensure the following:

  • Healthy attachment through consistency - Ultimate Impact makes a commitment to schools, program partners, youth, and families by showing up day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, and year-to-year.
  • Support key transitions - Ultimate Impact provides age specific, year-round coaching sessions. From 2nd grade through high school, programs provide youth with consistent adult mentorship and guidance, supporting students through the challenging transitions of elementary to middle and middle to high school.
  • Incentive-based positive education model - Many sports organizations put too much emphasis on Ultimate Impact emphasizes consistent participation, community, confidence, and mentorship.
  • Experienced and committed full-time coaches – Ultimate Impact wants paid coaches/mentors to see their jobs as long-term career opportunities and strives to provide strong financial and personal incentives to reward hard work. We provide paid vacation and health/dental benefits for our employees. We also recruit and train top volunteers as coaches and mentors to support staff.
  • Reduce transportation barriers - One of the major barriers for youth participation in organized sports is transportation. Ultimate Impact subsidizes transportation for participants, a commitment most sports programs are unable to make.
  • Strong community connections – We build relationships with people and institutions in the community with the goal of forming and maintaining long-term partnerships.

 Testimonials

"We started our partnership with Ultimate Impact in 2017 and during the first session they grabbed the attention of our students. As a Site Coordinator, I have seen partners come and go due to a lack of dedication and commitment, but with Ultimate Impact the partnership has been different. They work with multiple classes and they truly care and love the youth and staff at Paul Revere and to me, that's priceless. Our students . . . it's great to see them now play as a team/family."
