United Way of Northeastern Minnesota's mission is: To unite and focus our communities in creating measurable results to improve people’s lives and strengthen our families. In addition to supporting more than 60 nonprofit agencies, we also offer our own programming:

•Buddy Backpacks – sending backpacks filled with nutritious food home each weekend with children at risk of being hungry during the school year.
•Smiles Across Minnesota – the preventative dental program in a school based setting for children who are uninsured or under-insured. In our service territory , we have a shortage of dentists and 40-50% of the children in our schools have never been to a dentist.
•Imagination Library – providing free age-appropriate books delivered monthly to children from birth to age five to help encourage early literacy, parents reading with children and preparing children to enter kindergarten.
