United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg (UWGRP) mobilizes the caring power of our local communities to help those in need and create opportunities for everyone to thrive. Our work centers around creating mobility out of poverty and serving low-income and other vulnerable groups of children, families, and older adults. In our region, poverty affects a significant portion of the population, with one in three children and one in four adults living below 200% of the federal poverty line. United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg (UWGRP) is focused on ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) populations—households earning above the federal poverty level but still unable to afford essential living costs. ALICE families represent 33% of the households in our 13 regions and are crucial members of our community.
