Urban Neighborhood Educational Technology for You is a community technology center that helps to close the technological gaps that narrow America's core social divides that effect education, community, opportunity, and employment. Our initiatives are designed to enhance the academic (after-school/OST) and social skills of neighborhood residents, through equal access to learning resources such as computers, tutors, and reading enhancements. Our focus is on helping the community increase their technological literacy, which can be and important goal. But the application of technology will contribute to a wide range of social, economic and educational outcomes, from computer literacy, job placement to higher test scores and community involvement. Urban Neighborhood stands as a visible commitment to the neighborhood for over 20 yrs.
We serve over 1400 families/youth who live in the Eastchester Heights housing complex and the surrounding areas where there is the greatest concentration of youth group homes. Our goal this summer is to give our youth something to do to keep them off the streets where trouble looms. We give real alternatives to urban distrations that build character and pride. Many of our youth have never stepped out of the State! Violence is a daily occurence and many youth find it hard to stay afloat. By introducing them to fun and recreation we help to reduce stress and tension that comes with living in a low-income community.
