The Van Alstyne Education Foundation (VAEF) provides scholarships for graduating seniors and teacher grants for innovative classroom ideas. Many recent graduates lack the money to attend college/trade or technical school. While our scholarships are not enough to pay the entire tuition, it just might be the motivation they need to go and further their eduation. VAEF also rewards inspiring teachers who think outside the box and who bring ingenuity to the classroom. All teachers are encouraged to apply for grants. The foundation serves over 1600 students in rural Van Alstyne that is quickly growing! Our overhead is very low with only one part time employee. We have three events every year to raise money. Senior scholarships awarded last year were $52,000 and teacher grants were over $32,000. The education foundation also has a considerable endowment which funds named scholarships.
