Virginia Master Naturalists are volunteer educators, citizen scientists, and stewards helping Virginia conserve and manage natural resources and public lands. Apply now to join a group of volunteers making a positive environmental impact in their communities, neighborhoods, HOAs, local parks, Loudoun County, Northern Virginia and across the state!
In 2006, Banshee Reeks Chapter became the first VMN chapter chartered in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Serving Loudoun County, our chapter home is at the Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Virginia. Training classes are held in their Education Annex surrounded by 695 acres of forests, successional fields, ponds and streams where we conduct field studies, continuing education classes and volunteer service projects.
Our VMN volunteers support Audubon Society, Audubon at Home Ambassadors, Blue Ridge Center Pollinator Habitat and Nature Play area, Plant NoVA Natives Initiative, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy, native plantings at parks, schools and HOAs, bird walks, The Christmas Bird Count, bluebird nest box monitoring, bat monitoring at multiple sites in Loudoun County, Willowsford Conservancy educational programming, Frederick Douglass Elementary, Waterford Village and many other volunteer projects.
Our volunteers are available to teach courses in native plants, mammals, environmental sustainability, reptiles, geological history, building habitats, raptors, exploring nature and beyond.
