Vista Magnet Middle School (VMMS) is a public magnet school that serves 830 sixth to eighth-grade students. Vista Magnet's minority student enrollment is approximately 80% with 66% economically disadventaged students. Our vision is that all members of the Vista Magnet Community are empowered to create positive change in the world. We exemplify this vision as an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP) World School. Through our themes of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and our rich art and world languages program, we infuse reading and writing across the curriculum. Academic rigor and a spirit of inquiry are demonstrated through various hands-on learning activities, project and performance-based assessments, and a well-rounded approach to learning. Students from the Vista Unified School District (VUSD) community and the surrounding North
County San Diego area attend our campus.
Our philosophy involves four pillars:
• ENGAGE – Students will engage in inquiry and critical thinking to make meaning of content that will remain with them not for 40 days, or 40 months, but 40 years.
• ACHIEVE – As a result of innovative instructional practices, students will be able to be active participants in learning rather than recipients of knowledge.
• BELONG – Students will make meaningful connections through their academic, social, and personal goals.
• DESIGN – Students will be able to create novel solutions to real-world problems through the four elements of the design cycle: investigate, plan, create, and evaluate.
