Washington Council of Lawyers is the only voluntary bar association in the District of Columbia dedicated to promoting pro bono service and public-interest law. We provide support, training, and assistance to legal services organizations and attorneys providing pro bono legal services to the poor. Our members are affiliated with law firms (large and small), government agencies, public interest organizations, and law schools. Our programs help them serve clients who are facing legal issues that impact the most fundamental needs: eviction assistance and adequate housing, personal safety, fair wages, and basic civil liberties. So many in our community desperately need legal help but are unable to afford a lawyer. We help lawyers to serve those most in need.
