The Waukegan Park District is committed to providing memorable experiences, innovative parks, state of the art facilities and accessible programs for all. In the last three years more than 149,000 participants registered for programs and community events bringing thousands together. Over 8 million in public and private grants were secured to enhance opportunities and fuel growth in Waukegan. To make programs more accessible, $1.5 million dollars are budgeted annually to make programs and memberships affordable and, in many cases, free to residents.

Diversity is at the core of our workforce and program initiatives to reflect the community we serve. In the past year, 39 programs were offered to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month and International Women’s Day. We have been recognized for our program initiatives during Hispanic Heritage Month and received an award from the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association (IPRA) for 2024.

The Waukegan Park District focuses creatively adapting to the evolving community and provides exceptional parks, recreation and cultural arts that benefit all. It is a six-time Gold Medal finalist, CAPRA accredited since 2005, and proudly serving Illinois’ 10th largest city and one of the most diverse communities in the region.
