We build safer communities by helping individuals make their way through conflict and crisis to a place of strength and stability. Waymakers, a charitable 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, was established in 1972 at the University of California Irvine, under the aegis of the Social Ecology Program.  Initially, diversion counseling for delinquent youths and their families was provided at the Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach Police Departments.  Since that time, Waymakers has grown dramatically in size and scope and has designed and implemented some of the most respected prevention and intervention programs in Southern California.  Ten model programs assist over 100,000 persons a year ~ abused children, victims of crime, struggling families, troubled adolescents, mediation services and training, and Youth Shelters that provide short-term care, housing, and counseling for at-risk adolescents ages 11-17.  Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter relies mostly on the generosity of the community to provide much-needed services to youth in crisis.
