West Springfield Boys & Girls Club was established in 1914 as the West Springfield Relief Organization. Since then, it has gone through a few different iterations, always focused on providing services for low income members of the community and offering services to local youth. In 1961, the organization changed its name to The West Springfield Boys & Girls Club, Inc. Our mission, "to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens," is reflected in our dedication to creating programs that enhance academic success, create good character, promote healthy physical and emotional habits, and prepare youth for life and work.
Our Club members come from various communities around Pioneer Valley, such as West Springfield, Agawam, Chicopee, and Springfield, represent various socio-economic, ethnic and language backgrounds and range in age from 2.9 to 18 years old. In keeping with our mission, the programs our talented staff develop and implement focus on providing a variety of experiences, enrichment, and opportunities that many of our members may not have access to otherwise, including science, art and literacy lessons, cutting-edge tech access, field trips to new environments, and much more. We never turn a family away due to an inability to pay. In 2024 alone, we provided $94,007 in financial aid and scholarships to ensure that all youth, regardless of socio-economic status, have access to our life-changing programs.
Currently, the Club serves between 500 and 600 youth annually, with over 60% coming from low- to moderate-income households. In addition to offering Before & After School Care at our Main Street location, we also operate four satellite programs at local schools and run our “Little Futures” Preschool. The Club provides a wide range of opportunities throughout the year, including Vacation Week Programs, Summer Programs, Enrichment Clubs, Teen Programs, and more.
