Since 1990, the Westborough Appalachia Service Project Youth Group has sent local teens and young adults down to one of the most profoundly impoverished areas in the United States: Central Appalachia, the region where Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee meet.

In an area where poverty is double the national average, so many families struggle with day to day expenses. Home repairs are put off, year after year. Tens of thousands of these homes are substandard-- many without adequate kitchens or even plumbing. These proud, hard-working, close-knit families don’t ask for much, but they deserve to live in a home
that is safe, dry and warm. The national ASP group coordinates volunteer youth groups who travel from around the country to central Appalachia to make a huge impact in American communities with profound need. ASP can only help 1 in 10 families who apply for assistance! We need your help!

Our volunteers repair and rebuild homes for low-income families in rural Appalachia. They fix roofs, flooring, insulation, or plumbing; they build stairs, dig ditches, and do anything else that is asked of them in order to make homes warmer, safer and drier. These energetic youth and their group leaders give time and skills to improve the living conditions of people
caught in poverty. All projects are done at no charge to the recipients.

In 2019, donations from local area businesses and families helped send 158 amazing volunteers to two counties in West Virginia to perform every imaginable kind of home repair. In July 2020, ASP will send 168 volunteers, with 120 youth, to Appalachia. Imagine the energy of all those enthusiastic young people!

We must raise over $120,000 to pay for all of the building materials, food and lodging at a local school, and transportation costs, for our 9-day trip to Appalachia. We have many fundraisers, but our “Friends of ASP Adult Social & Silent Auction” is Westborough ASP’s most important community fundraiser. Please join the hundreds of area businesses who support us each year! We create color displays containing logos, donor information, and details of the donated item. We add logos to our slideshow and website.

ASP is more than a just building program. Youth interact with the family they're assigned to serve, forging relationships and friendships that impact them for the rest of their lives. Lessons learned about compassion and service that enrich faith and build character are brought home to enrich our own local communities. Though you surely get many requests for donations; please know that your generous support for the Westborough ASP Youth Group not only helps families in need, but is an investment in the energy and compassion of our local young people. Their renewed passion for service transforms the youth and likewise benefits our own communities.

Please consider donating goods, services, or gift certificates for our Silent Auction fundraiser. You will help our local youth make a difference in the lives of many struggling families.
