The WNY Perinatal Bereavement Network, Inc. (WNYPBN) is a 501(c)(3) organization providing bereavement support to individuals,families and professionals in the eight counties of Western New York. The mission is to assist the community in meeting the needs of people facing perinatal death; the death of a baby due to miscarriage, ecptopic pregnancy, stillbirth or early infant death. The WNYPBN provides bereavement support as well as referral and linkage services directly to families through support groups, memorial events, in-hospital bereavement programs and community/professional education about perinatal loss. Approximately 1 in 4 pregnancies result in a perinatal loss and the rates of stillborn and preterm birth are higher in minority mothers and mothers living in poverty. The WNYPBN currently serves over 1,500 grieving families from diverse backgrounds, many whom are residing in the Buffalo area and receive Medicaid services.
