Whiskers has been rescuing cats in the Capital Region since 1982. Our motto, “Making a difference… one life at a time” is demonstrative not only of our philosophy but our determination. We know we can’t save every homeless or abused cat, but the lives of those cats that become a part of the Whiskers’ family are changed forever. Whiskers rescues the cats that other rescue groups can’t or won’t. Older cats, disabled cats, feral cats, cats with chronic medical problems --- these are our specialty. Whether it is a 14 year old cat returned to us when her loving owner was admitted to a nursing home or the five tiny kittens discarded like trash in a sealed box in a dumpster, Whiskers will give those cats the medical services they need and provide a safe haven until a loving home can be found. If there is not adoptive home for a particular cat, then it can live out its life in the comfort of our free-roaming sanctuary. Our all-volunteer staff keeps our costs to a bare minimum, but, as you know, costs just keep rising, especially our medical bills. Whiskers spends more than $15,000 a month just on veterinary bills. We are not funded by any governmental agency. To provide for the hundreds of cats we rescue each year, we rely on exclusively on the generosity of our donors.
