We are an award winning non-profit with a replicable model that addresses food insecurity, marginalization and environmental impact. Fresh surplus food is picked up directly from food retailers, lovingly sorted, and delivered to local non-profits serving our most vulnerable neighbors for free. We also distribute new and like new clothing, toys and books. Charity Navigator gives us 4-star rating with 100% in all categories. In 10 years, WPE has rescued more than 20 million pounds of fresh high quality food and prevented more than 25,000 tons of CO2 emissions from entering the air we breathe by removing food from landfill, in partnership with the state of California CalRecyle program. Primary target area is Contra Costa County, but include special projects, like Campfire victims, Ukraine and more.
Rather than thinking of ourselves as a charity, we believe everyone is part of our human family. We are unified in service to each other so that no one suffers. The idea is to uplift lives! There’s no distinction between the giver and the receiver – all are equally benefited. We are committed to sharing our model and have done so with Mexico City and the Vatican to name two. Awards include 2018 California Non-Profit of the Year.
