William R. Dutemple Elementary is a Title I school in Cranston, Rhode Island, serving approximately 300 students with grades K through 5. Our Parent-Teacher Organization is a small group of dedicated parents and teachers working to improve the experience of all students, teachers/staff, and families at Dutemple Elementary. Our PTO helps to cover school-related expenses that are outside the school budget, including covering the expenses of all transportation for field trips, funding all school assemblies, providing additional funds to teachers for educational supplies and other teaching-related needs, and purchasing books for teaching and the school library with our Book Fair. Due to the newly-enforced Rhode Island Department of Education policy preventing schools from charging families for field trips, this year our PTO also committed to guaranteeing field trips run even when sufficient funds are not donated. Our PTO also works to create a strong sense of community by organizing regular movie nights, arts and craft activities, a Fall carnival, school dances, etc.
