The mission of Wind Horse Sanctuary is to rescue neglected or at risk horses and provide life long care to horses with special needs at the sanctuary or through rehabilitation and adoption to forever homes.

Wind Horse was conceptualized by Seneca, my 19-year-old daughter, who had a passion of rescuing as many horses as she could.  We currently have several older and disabled horses, most of who will never be ridden again and just live out their lives in a safe pasture. Seneca  passed away in September of 2021 from a car accident, leaving her 7 horses on our family’s small Sanctuary. This Sanctuary was launched in her honor to carry out her passion and mission of helping at risk, older horses.

According to the ASPCA, in 2020, over 36,000 horses were trucked over the borders into Mexico to be slaughtered for human consumption.  It is our hope to continue to rescue horses from auctions and prevent kill buyers from shipping the horses in inhumane conditions across our borders.  We recently added two 27 year old horses to our herd.  These old horses lost their human and the family were going to bring them to auction, we rescued them so they can live their remaining days with us on our property.

In addition we are getting ready to rescue four burros from the BLM.  There are currently  82,384 animals in the Bureau of Land Management’s care. These animals desperately need forever homes.  We intend to keep four member of a burro family together over the next month and bring them home to a safe and forever home where they do not need to fear being hungry or separated
