The mission of WomenSafe is to provide emergency shelter and support services to survivors of domestic violence throughout Northeast Ohio.
The needs of survivors of domestic violence are complex. WomenSafe recognizes this and adapts comprehensive services to assist survivors. WomenSafe staff is trained to utilize trauma informed care, a best practice in the field. Services are responsive to the needs of survivors and provided free of charge:
· Hotline Services—Trained staff and volunteers are available 24-hours a day to provide crisis support and management services to survivors of domestic violence.
· Emergency Shelter—WomenSafe staffs and supports an emergency shelter for abused adults and children. All other services listed are also available and basic necessities are provided.
· Counseling—Licensed counselors are available to aid individuals residing in shelter or in the community in dealing with the trauma of living in an abusive environment.
· Court Advocacy—Trained advocates accompany survivors and their children to attorney, court, school or social service agency appointments.
· Hospital Advocacy—Advocates go to hospital bedsides to discuss WomenSafe services and offer support to anyone requesting information.
· Empowered Parent Program—This program is designed as a parent mentoring and empowerment program to support parents in/out of shelter to mentor healthy communication and address behavioral issues that some children exhibit as a survivor of trauma.
· Outreach Services—All staff can assist with providing education on domestic violence to various community groups including “Healthy Relationships” throughout area schools.
· Aftercare/Follow Up—Follow up communication and visits are offered to survivors to provide continued supportive services, such as household necessities and links with other programs.
