Since 1977, WSLB has provided direct services to domestic violence victims, and community outreach and education to the greater Long Beach population, Los Angeles County, and Southern California. Most clients have low/very low income levels; may be immigrants facing unique challenges and cultural barriers to seeking assistance; and all benefit from WSLB’s free bilingual services and culturally sensitive programs. WSLB welcomes victims identifying in the LGBTQ community and is the only local shelter serving male victims. Two overarching goals drive all programming at WSLB: to facilitate clients' self-sufficiency, empowerment, and well-being; and to prevent recidivism of domestic violence through community outreach and education. WSLB operates the 24-bed confidential Shelter and the public-access Domestic Violence Resource Center. Services include: 24/7 crisis hotline; immediate and safe shelter; legal advocacy; individual and group counseling; life skills education; healthy parenting skills; health education and access.
