Sylvia, a single mother in our community, and her three children walked into the xHope hub exhausted and vulnerable. Spending the last several nights sleeping in their van put them at-risk in so many ways. The children were starting school the following week and were unprepared tangibly to attend school with dignity. Can you imagine being a mom who so desperately wants to provide for your children but due to unforeseen circumstances you can’t? This is where the xHope local programs intervene.
We have BIG DREAMS for growth and expansion of our local Caring for Kids programs. We want to continue providing for families like Sylvia’s. Her children visited the xHope hub and they picked out NEW backpacks and school supplies. They also left with hygiene kits and new books. Most importantly, each child had a shopping experience in our Community Closet and they left ready for their first day of school, regardless of their homeless situation. They were proud to walk onto campus with their new backpack and wearing a brand new outfit and shoes.
Through the support of our community, partner organizations, local businesses and donors, we were able to raise nearly $100,000 last year in our fundraising event. These proceeds are the reason our local programs, benefiting foster and at-risk youth in Elk Grove and throughout the Sacramento region, have allowed us to meet the immediate needs of nearly 400 children.
Our hope is to bring continued relief to the increasing number of children that need our support.
