Founded in 1975, YAP currently operates programs in 31 states and Washington, D.C. and serves over 20,000 youth and families annually in urban, rural, and suburban settings by developing public/private partnerships. YAP’s program participants are increasingly multi-system involved and its programs have expanded to meet these challenges in response to the needs of the communities served. YAP’s mission is to provide families with safe, community-based and economical alternatives to out of home placement that are proven to interrupt systems involvement and help youth people and their families succeed. YAP’s approach is built on the premise that even the most at-risk children, families and communities have assets and capabilities that can and must be developed.
