YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families and strengthen the community.  Our programs serve 46 towns in Connecticut.  These programs include: childcare, family literacy, health and fitness, youth dance, theater and sports, sexual assault crises services, youth enrichment and our Community Health Workers Training Academy.  Our childcare program serves over 700 children from infants and toddlers to preschool and schoolage children.  Our Family Literacy program empowers women to complete their education and acquire the skills required for the workplace.  We offer assistance to sexual assault survivors and their loved ones.  These services are critical after such trauma, helping victims and their families regain feelings independence, optimism and hope.  The advocates on staff are trained to work with hospital staff, the court system, public safety officers and other counselors assisting their clients.  YWCA takes an active approach to advocacy and raising awareness about challenges that women face in our community.  YWCA staff lobby, participate in press events, write letters, make phone calls to legislators, and provide testimony in an effort to achieve our objectives.
