The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

In this context, YWCA Union County is on a mission: to empower survivors of domestic violence to become safe and free from abuse, and to promote social justice and eliminate violence against women and girls.

The YWCA Union County is the primary provider of comprehensive domestic violence services in Union County, New Jersey. The agency was founded in 1920 to support women in the local community. Our focus shifted to domestic violence in 1978 out of growing concern for women and their children in the Union County community. The organization has experienced a number of hardships in the past few years, including the loss of the headquarters building due to a fire and the passing of the former executive director. Despite these challenges, the organization has continued to fulfill it's mission of empowering survivors of domestic violence to become safe and free from abuse and promote social justice. In the year 2022 alone, we provided services to 7,274 women and children. These services included residential emergency shelter, crisis counseling, and court advocacy for survivors, and creative arts therapy and counseling for children who have witnessed domestic violence.
