Since 1963, Turtle Back Zoo has been proudly committed to providing an enriching recreational experience that fosters excellence in wildlife education and conservation, so that present and future generations are inspired to understand, appreciate, and protect the fragile interdependence of all living things. The Zoological Society of New Jersey was established as a nonprofit in 1975. The Society’s mission is to promote the welfare of Turtle Back Zoo; stimulate the public's interest in the growth, improvement, and development of the Zoo through education and research, with an emphasis on natural conservation of all animal species; sponsor fund-raising events and encourage Society memberships, in order to help in the financing of new facilities and programs, purchase of equipment, and acquisition of animals. Funds raised by the Society through memberships, events, gifts, and grants, are used to expand Turtle Back Zoo’s animal collection and exhibits, and otherwise support the Zoo.
