Description

The Rainbow Run and Family Fun Day is the primary fundraising event for the Abby’s Angels Foundation and includes an untimed 5K color run for all ages and abilities plus music, food, carnival games, a Ken Scott Magic Show, and an amazing raffle. We typically have about 1000 registered runners each year at the Coweta County Fairgrounds. Due to Covid, we had to cancel our 2020 event, but we are back on for 2021! This year, to accommodate everyone who wishes to participate, we will welcome in person runners and, for the first time, we will offer virtual runner registrations. Our event will be held in Historic Downtown Newnan, a very special place for Abby and her family.

The proceeds from the Rainbow Run and Family Fun Day help us continue our mission of encouraging safe teen driving and helping children in need. Our work reflects the giving spirit of sweet Abby, who was 9 years old when she earned her angel wings on Christmas Day 2012 as a result of injuries sustained in a car wreck caused by a distracted teen driver. She gave the Gift of Life through organ donation, saving four lives.

The work of the Abby's Angels Foundation includes:

-Sponsoring monthly accident avoidance classes in Coweta County, GA for teens and young adults through a partnership with Fear This 4 Life, Inc (www.tvoc.ws). Over 1300 teens and young adults have participated since 2015. In addition, Abby's mom, Natalie, strongly advocated for the 2018 Hands Free Georgia Law and speaks to students and businesses about the importance of non-distracted driving.

-Operating 51 Abby's Closets located in K-12 schools in Coweta, Carroll, Fayette and Heard counties (GA) plus West Virginia, Texas & Alabama. Abby's Closets provide free school supplies all year long to children in need.

-Providing free grief counseling for local children who have lost a parent, sibling or primary caregiver, through a partnership with Kate's Club.

-Awarding five $1000 college scholarships to deserving seniors who have taken the accident avoidance class and who embrace our safe driving message. To date, $27,000 in scholarships have been awarded.
